Video of the Week - NoHardware.com destroys server huggers' equipment

Your servers are not bullet proof; they will blow up on you. Literally.

Doctor GoGrid doesn't seem to believe in halfway measures. According to him, "server huggers" everywhere need to get over their hardware addictions and migrate to the cloud. In this week's videos of the week, the good doctor gives geeks tough love treatment by confiscating their hardware, forcing them to go cold turkey. And to illustrate his point, he destroys the hardware using guns, explosives, and even a flamethrower

The results are pretty spectacular, and definitely hilarious.

In real life, Doctor GoGrid is John Keagy, CEO of GoGrid, a cloud services provider. According to Keagy, the company removes all of the challenges of owning and operating servers.

"That is why we blow them up on www.nohardware.com," Keagy said.

The videos, two of which are available on YouTube, were designed to be viral advertisements. Although they do not drive sales, according to Keagy, they do seem to increase awareness of their brand -- some customers have told Keagy that they first heard about GoGrid via the videos.

Nonetheless, not all are convinced of the videos' value. "Almost everybody thinks it is a huge waste of time and money," Keagy said.

But for Keagy, who confesses to having a destructive side, the videos weren't just about marketing. Said Keagy, "It was worth it for the fun alone."
