Secure encryption, with Hydra


Greek mythology tells of the Lernaean Hydra, a nine-headed serpent with poisonous breath and a unique defensive system: every time you cut off one head, two more grew in its place.

According to legend, the hydra acted as an effective guardian, and the beast came very close to defeating Hercules.

So, some people in grid computing thought that the name ‘hydra’ was an appropriate one for an encryption system that guards sensitive data while the information is being stored and transferred.

The system may be especially useful in the worlds of medicine and finance, where data is often highly sensitive and security is paramount.
