Announcement – Advanced Computing and Analysis Techniques in Physics Research workshop deadlines approach

Registration and abstract submission deadlines for the next Advanced Computing and Analysis Techniques in Physics Research workshop (ACAT) are fast approaching.

The workshop is scheduled to take place 22-27 February 2010 in Jaipur, India, a five hour drive from New Delhi. This year’s slogan is, “Beyond the cutting edge in computing.” There will be a fair amount of discussion of distributed computing – on the event website’s front page, they mention the potential clouds have to change the way we do science.

“…all levels of virtualisation imagined till now seem to be possible via Clouds, and possibly many more. Information Technology has been the working backbone of the Global Village, and now, in more than one sense, it is becoming itself the Global Village. Between these two, the gap between the need for adapting applications to exploit the new hardware possibilities and the push toward virtualisation of resources is widening, creating more challenges as technical and intellectual progress continues. ACAT 2010 proposes to explore and confront the different boundaries of the evolution of computing, and its possible consequences on our scientific activity.”

The event’s programming will focus on three topic areas: computing technology for physics research, data analysis algorithms and tools, and techniques and methods for computations in theoretical physics.

The early registration deadline is 31 December 2009. Abstracts are due by 31 October 2009; you can submit your abstract via the event’s Indico page. For more information, please visit the ACAT 2010 website.
