This summer, researchers and administrators of all levels have the opportunity to learn more about grid computing and e-Science at the seventh annual GridKa School.

The one-week event, which takes place 31 August through 4 September, is organized by the Steinbuch Centre for Computing at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, together with the project "Sustainable Grid Infrastructure" (a part of the D-Grid initiative), the HGF Alliance "Physics at the Terascale," and the project 'Enabling Grids for E-Science.' Participants will have the chance to learn about the sponsoring projects, among others.

About half of the school consists of hands-on tutorials and workshops, giving participants the opportunity to gain actual expertise on different kinds of middleware, applications and techniques. Because these tutorials are offered in parallel tracks, GridKa School’s practical courses cover topics well-suited for beginners, experienced users and grid administrators. The advanced talks and presentations give an up-to-date overview on important and interesting grid subjects.

The program is completed by a 'get together' event (including a guided tour of the German WLCG Tier-1 center 'GridKa'), a school dinner, a poster session (students are encouraged to present their work), and a grid security workshop aimed at administrators.

Applicants from all scientific and industry disciplines can apply online at the GridKa homepage. The full preliminary schedule is also available on the homepage. Before July 31, registrants can also take advantage of an early bird discount. The school’s organizing team reserves the right to limit the number of participants if necessary.
