SC Education Summer Workshops 2008: Computing and science education

Applications of HPC, grids and parallel computing to science education

This SC Education workshop is intended for undergraduate and graduate educators in all fields of science, technology, engineering, mathematics, humanities, arts and social sciences, especially those from minority-serving institutions. High school teachers collaborating with college faculty and mentoring faculty are also welcome.

The workshop introduces parallel and cluster computing in an educational setting. The instructors address teaching about grids and parallel environments, and present examples suitable for classroom use.

The curriculum includes computational biology and computational chemistry tools and resources. It covers dynamic modeling, bioinformatics, simulation, molecular modeling, mathematical software and visualization vis-a-vis distributed environments and tools.

  • Navajo Technical College, Crownpoint NM, 15-21 June
  • Grand Valley State University, Allendale, MI  6–12 July
  • NCSA Access DC, Arlington, VA, 20-26 July
  • University of Oklahoma, Norman, OK, 10-16 August

Cost

  • Participants pay a registration fee of $150 and cover their travel expenses.
  • The SC Education Program provides room, board, most meals, and covers other associated costs.
