Announcement - Registration open: Grid Computing Conference, May, Malaysia

The Grid Computing Conference will be held 15-16 May 2008 at the Palace of the Golden Horses in Malaysia, in conjunction with the upcoming 16th World Congress on IT.

Registration is now open for the first ever Grid Computing Conference to be held in Malaysia. The conference will be held 15-16 May 2008 at the Palace of the Golden Horses in conjunction with the upcoming 16th World Congress on IT 2008.

The conference will highlight Malaysia’s National Grid Computing initiatives and how grids can enhance local industries and enterprises, grid computing technology and market trends, grid computing projects in Malaysia and grid computing in private and public sector across Asia and how grid computing can bridge the digital divide, improve national productivity and societal well-being in Asia.

Participants will also hear from representatives from Open Grid Forum, German D-Grid, Enabling Grids for E-SciencE, Pacific Rim Applications and Grid Middleware Assemble (PRAGMA), Thai National Grid Centre, Taiwan-based National Applied Research Laboratories, Japan-based National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), and other local grid entities.

The conference is being organized by MIMOS. Co-organizers include Hewlett-Parkard, Cisco, Sun Microsystems, Altair Engineering, Oracle Corporation, Silicon Graphics and IBM.

About WCIT 2008

The five-day World Congress on Information Technology, to be held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre on 18-22 May 2008, is a global ICT forum that brings together global leaders in business, government and academia to impact economic and social development through the exchange of policies and ideas on technology. Often billed as the Olympics of ICT, the 16th WCIT 2008 is themed “Enable, Empower and Enrich,” to reflect its potential to enable businesses, empower societies and enrich economies.

The event, which incorporates a three-day Congress, a Link Program for business matching, several ICT exhibitions and various ancillary activities, is expected to draw more than 2500 delegates from more than 80 countries. Keynote speakers include some of the most respected and admired names in industry and government.

50,000 attendees expected

In addition to WCIT 2008, there will be 13 other ICT Related Events organized for an all-encompassing global ICT gathering. WCIT 2008 and its Related Events will provide an extensive platform for Malaysian ICT players to forge strategic partnerships, enhance business networks, showcase ICT products and services, and exchange ideas or thoughts for constructive resolutions on a comprehensive coverage of ICT issues and sectors. Collectively, these events are expected to attract about 50,000 participants including 8,000 delegates and 42,000 expo visitors.
