Feature - Proofing an ancient wisdom: medicinal herbs meet grid technology

Medicinal herbs have been part of Thailand’s way of life since ancient times. Many drugs are produced from them, but are not tested at the chemical level.

Now Thai researchers have a grid-powered portal for centralized access to the molecular structure of these herbs. By modelling how well a molecule docks to a disease enzyme, they can select the most effective drugs without costly experiments,

/WorldWide Telescope goes  online

A sort of GoogleEarth for space, this virtual telescope brings together imagery from the best ground- and space-based telescopes to enable seamless, guided explorations of the universe. Its developers say it gives seamless panning and zooming across the night sky,  blending terabytes of images, data and stories from multiple sources .

Using a ‘Visual Experience Engine,’ the software allows multiple telescope distributed image and data sets, and one-click contextual access to distributed Web information and data sources, making for an observatory on a desktop.
