IOP Publishing are launching a new journal in response to the growing popularity and relevance of computational science.

Called Computational Science & Discovery, the journal focuses on scientific advances and discovery through computational science in physics, chemistry, biology and applied science.

“The growing importance of computational science presents a need for a new journal in which advances in this area can be reported,” said Anthony Mezzacappa, editor-in-chief of the journal. “A high quality, refereed journal with a focus on computational science—in particular, scientific discovery through computation—is essential.”

Contributing to CSD

CSD articles should include details of the scientific advances and discoveries made, the numerical algorithms used and the verification and validation of codes performed. They may also include specific details of the enabling technologies used—for example, in data management, networking and visualization—that made the scientific advances possible and that would not be covered in other publications with a different focus.

CSD therefore offers a unique opportunity for researchers to publish all the important components of their enterprise, together with their scientific results.

Articles should provide
•    an important measure of the quality of the scientific results presented
•    the essential information that will allow other groups to reproduce these results
•    a prescription that will allow other groups to successfully perform the scientific workflow that enabled the scientific advances.

Recognizing that discovery through computational science involves the integration of science, applied mathematics and enabling technologies, CSD welcomes collaborative papers from authors in different disciplines. Authors are encouraged to write their contributions so that researchers in other fields can benefit from the reported advances, allowing communication across disciplines.
