The Research Lab Computational Technologies and Applications of the Faculty of Computer Science at the University of Vienna in cooperation with EGEE and the Research Focus “Computational Life Sciences” of the Faculty of Life Sciences and the University of Vienna are organizing an international workshop on Campus Grids and Scientific Applications.

The workshop will be held in Vienna, Austria, from 31 January to 1 February 2008. Attendance is free of charge but anybody interested in participating is requested to register before January 10, 2008.

The workshop provides a forum for presenting latest results and for discussing current developments and directions in all aspects of campus grids and scientific applications for such infrastructures. This includes (but is not limited to) grid technology, middleware, workflow systems, as well as models and algorithms for scientific applications in campus grid environments. In terms of applications, a special focus is on application areas represented in the CPAMMS project, such as life sciences, quantum chemistry and molecular biology.

The main purpose of the workshop is to foster interaction and communication between experts in the development of soft- and middleware infrastructures for campus grids on the one hand and applications scientists, the potential “users” of this technology, who need to map their models and algorithms onto this infrastructure on the other hand.

The program will feature invited speakers including

  • Gerhard Ecker (University of Vienna, Austria)
  • Ignacio Blanquer Espert (DSIC, Spain)
  • Gianni De Fabritiis (Pompeu Fabra University, Spain)
  • Dennis Gannon (Indiana University, USA)
  • Wilfried Gansterer (University of Vienna, Austria)
  • Dieter Kranzlmüller (JKU Linz, Austria)
  • Erwin Laure (CERN, Switzerland)
  • Miron Livny (University of Wisconsin, USA)
  • Lydia Maigne (CNRS, France)
  • Matthias Ruckenbauer (University of Vienna, Austria)
  • Heiko Schmidt (University of Vienna, Austria)
  • Achim Streit (Research Centre Jülich, Germany)
