Roll out your grid business ideas!

The UK Research Councils’ Business Plan Competition is on again, and this year organizers are keen to see more ideas that take advantage of distributed computing.

“Grid technology is continuing to evolve and has tremendous potential,” said Nathan Hill of the Science and Technology Facilities Council, UK. “We’d like to see more business ideas exploring that area. We’re also keen to see ideas with potential for exploitation within the UK.”

Entry is open to researchers at institutes funded by the UK Research Councils, including CERN.

Queries regarding eligibility can be addressed to Sue Fuller of the STFC. For a discussion on your idea, contact Alex Efimov or Nathan Hill or call +44 (1223) 422405

The initial call is for one-page business ideas, to be submitted by 14 September 2007.

Applicants who make the first cut will recieve free training at a two-day commercialization workshop.

The final phase of the competition involves the preparation of a high quality business plan, under the guidance of skilled experts experienced in research commercialization.

Prizes of up to £25,000 will be awarded to the business plans judged to have the best potential to help turn business ideas into reality.
